In honor of #PenguinAwarenessDay: Cincy penguins (video)

While every day is a good day to appreciate our squat, waddling and dapper penguin friends, Jan. 20 is a time to pay particular attention to the aquatic, flightless birds, as it's Penguin Awareness Day.
Cincinnatians aren't strangers to penguins, despite the birds being native to the Southern Hemisphere. The Newport Aquarium has six species of penguins and the Cincinnati Zoo lists five penguins among its roster of seabirds.

Each institution has penguin-themed shows in step with the season. Newport Aquarium has Penguin Palooza, which you can read more about here.

The Cincinnati Zoo has Penguin Days, which began Jan. 3 and will run through March 11. The animal-enrichment event, part of the zoo's Special Animal Encounters, features 15-minute penguin "parades" every day at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and coincidentally falls on Penguin Awareness Day.
Like every official "day" of something, don't forget to use the proper hashtag: #penguinawarenessday.
