MYSTIC, Conn. (WTNH) — In honor of National Penguin Awareness Day, Mystic Aquarium has announced a new program called “Penguins Up Close.”
January 20 is recognized as National Penguin Awareness Day in honor of the colony of African penguins and endangered populations in South Africa.
Mystic Aquarium’s new program “Penguins Up Close” is designed to teach visitors about the care and conservation of the endangered African penguin. The exhibit also allows researchers to learn more about how penguins act in the wild, which they say will better help their efforts in saving the species.
Today, Mystic Aquarium’s Twitter account has even been “taken over” by penguins:
